Philipps-Universität Marburg: Connecting past and present, safety and comfort
Completed by the end of 2017, the new university library in central Marburg stands between St Elisabeth’s Church and the Old Botanical Garden. The distinctive building forms the heart of the future Campus Firmanei, connecting the surrounding historic buildings with the modern university.

Chubb Deutschland GmbHSafety built into the façade
WindowMaster supplied the control system and components for heat and smoke ventilation, including chain actuators fitted to vertical, side-hung windows integrated into the façade. The solution uses FlexiSmoke™, with WMX 826 actuators and WSC 520 panels.
Louvre expertise, built in
The library project also features louvre windows from FIEGER. As a specialist in large blade louvre window systems, FIEGER focuses on combining ventilation performance, façade integration and technical reliability.
Tested and fine-tuned
Before students and staff moved in, the university tested the complete smoke extraction system. Artificial smoke was introduced into the east and west wings, then discharged through the façade openings. Test runs averaged two to three hours, allowing the installer and university to fine-tune the system. Design consultants, fire safety specialists and fire service representatives attended. Following these adjustments, further testing achieved the required result to the university’s full satisfaction.
