Smoke ventilation plays a critical role in building safety—especially in high-traffic areas like stairwells and corridors where safe evacuation during a fire is paramount. Now, WindowMaster is pleased to announce a new collaboration with leading UPVC supplier VEKA. The collaboration involves certifying smoke ventilation windows using the latter’s systems by EN 12101-2, enabling these systems to comply with UK law.

A tested and certified solution for specifiers

In collaboration with VEKA and their trusted partners, Teal Products and L J Pratley & Partners, WindowMaster has developed a tested smoke control solution that integrates our proprietary actuators into VEKA’s Halo System 10 and M70 window systems.

These systems have been rigorously tested in accordance with BS/EN 12101-2, including:

  • Reliability testing (Annex C) with over 11,000 cycles
  • Low temperature resistance (Annex E) to -15°C
  • Wind load resistance (Annex F) up to 1750Pa
  • Heat resistance (Annex G) tested to class B300
  • Reaction to fire (Annex H) with classification E

The systems are now UKCA marked—streamlining the path to compliance for specifiers, while giving fabricators a reliable option for smoke ventilation in UPVC.

Ensuring safety with smarter window automation

By integrating Natural Smoke and Heat Exhaust Ventilators (NSHEVs) into VEKA’s UPVC profiles, this partnership delivers a fully tested solution that enhances safety while aligning with regulatory requirements. The result? Reliable smoke ventilation that doesn’t compromise on design freedom or performance.

“Fire safety is a non-negotiable and should be the ultimate priority from specifier through to facilities manager, regardless of setting. Occupants and visitors of any type of building need to know they’re protected from any hazard, and asset owners have a duty to ensure this is the case. It’s well-known that smoke is one of the biggest fire-related killers, so proven, advanced solutions that can quickly remove it need to be baked into the design from day one. VEKA shares our forward-thinking approach to make the UK built environment as safe as possible, and we’re excited to partner with them on this project, which will enhance the fire-safe qualities of its UPVC window systems.”
