WindowMaster, the Danish cleantech company, today announces its ambitious environmental goals for future energy and resource consumption. As a provider of climate-friendly, natural ventilation systems, the firm has developed a clear strategy encompassing the production and transportation of products, subcontractors, office staff and how its products are deployed by end users.

WindowMaster is one of only six Danish SMEs to join the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), an international collaboration supporting companies in reducing their greenhouse gas. It is also a participant in the UN Global Compact and was recently recognised by the Global Compact Network Denmark for its efforts and good reporting of sustainability in its comprehensive ‘WindowMaster Sustainability Report 2020’.

“Every company, no matter its size, has an impact on the environment and so should strive to be a global citizen. For WindowMaster, it’s an aim that impacts every aspect of business, from our employee interactions and ways of working to our products and the problems they solve."

Green goals

The company has developed a phased strategy to be 100% carbon neutral by 2030 across Scopes 1 and 2. Its first step is to reduce its Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 46% by 2025, compared to 2019 levels. This will see its 2019 CO2, and other greenhouse gas, emissions, calculated by auditing firm Deloitte to be 565.5 tonnes, cut to 359.7 tonnes. To help achieve this, within the next four years, all company vehicles will be fossil fuel-free, and offices and production will use only renewable energy. Other goals include adopting a more circular model and increasing the resource efficiency of raw materials and end-of-life products. After 2025, WindowMaster will set its sights on reducing its Scope 3 emissions. Further details about its sustainability strategy are due to be published in 2022, including its plan to meet five of the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): Climate Action, Good Health and Well-being, Responsible Consumption and Production, Affordable and Clean Energy, and Partnerships.

Sustainable growth

Erik Boyter, WindowMaster CEO, comments: “Business growth doesn’t have to be synonymous with a higher carbon footprint. Sustainability is increasingly a non-negotiable in product specification, and manufacturers who incorporate this stand to benefit. Aligning your business model with the drive to Net Zero will help ensure your products maintain relevance and high value.

“Every company, no matter its size, has an impact on the environment and so should strive to be a global citizen. For WindowMaster, it’s an aim that impacts every aspect of business, from our employee interactions and ways of working to our products and the problems they solve.

“We’ve set clear binding goals for the short and medium-term, which will help us measure our progress and set an example for others. While it requires a lot of effort, we believe it will provide both an environmental and commercial return.”
