WindowMaster & NorDan Unveil Smoke Ventilation for Commercial Façades
Today, ventilation specialist WindowMaster and NorDan announce that the latter’s smoke ventilation windows are now UKCA marked to EN 12101-2. Specific to NorDan’s NSHEV Side Opening, NSHEV Side Hinged and NSHEV Top Opening systems, each product will be equipped with WindowMaster’s proprietary actuators for smoke control. This latest development will not only help these systems comply with UK law, but will also make it easier to specify NorDan smoke ventilation solutions within this market.
Smoke ventilation systems are employed within buildings for various purposes, one of which is to effectively remove smoke from critical areas such as stairwells and corridors, ensuring the safe evacuation of individuals during fire incidents.
To guarantee the consistent functionality of these systems, it is essential to use equipment that demonstrates high reliability in challenging conditions, complete with the requisite UKCA marking.
As such, the new systems are UKCA marked according to EN 12101-2, covering:
- Annex B, Aerodynamic testing
- Annex C, Reliability testing 1000 + 10000 dual purpose ventilators
- Annex E, Low ambient temperature test, T (-15)
- Annex F, Resistance to wind load, tested to 2000Pa
- Annex G, Resistance to heat, testing to class B300
- Annex H, "Reaction to fire" testing, classification E
It’s a project that showcases both organisations’ dedication to safety, offering specifiers the very latest commercial façade solutions to help them achieve the best outcomes.
As Erik Boyter, WindowMaster’s CEO says, “You can never compromise on fire safety, whatever the setting. In commercial buildings asset owners, occupants, and visitors alike need to know they are protected from any eventuality. Smoke is one of the biggest causes of fire-related deaths, so any solution that can quickly remove it from the building interiors significantly reduces the risk. NorDan shares our vision for making the commercial built environment as safe as possible, and we’re proud to partner with them on this pioneering project.”
