In the kinder garden Solhuset located in Hørsholm north of Copenhagen there is plenty of space, light and air for the around100 children and 30 employees. And those features were particularly important in the design phase of Solhuset, which is a zero-energy building.
The comfortable indoor climate with plenty of fresh air is secured with WindowMasters hybrid ventilation system - a combination of controlled natural ventilation supplemented by mechanical ventilation with heat recovery during peak periods - primarily in winter - where natural ventilation is insufficient due to weather conditions.
The automatic natural ventilation takes inside as well as outside conditions into account. A weather station on the roof measures wind and weather conditions, while sensors in each room measure temperature, humidity and CO2 level. The entire system is controlled by WindowMasters NV Advance® solution which, in addition to data collection and opening/closing of windows, also monitors and controls all installations in Solhuset, and automatically selects the correct combination between underfloor heating, sun shading, ventilation and lighting to ensure the lowest possible energy consumption.
Solhuset is the world's first 'Active House' made for children, and in 2011, Solhuset was voted the Construction of the Year in the "Open Category" by the magazine ‘Byggeri’.
