In September 2016, Royds Hall welcomed children and families to a brand-new school building in Huddersfield. Royds Hall Primary was built and designed by BAM Construction for Kirklees Council. WindowMaster worked directly with BAM Construction on this prestigious project.
Kirklees Council chose WindowMaster’s NV Advance® system to control the natural ventilation systems throughout the 20 ventilation zones of this project. The 20 zones consist of classrooms, specialist teaching rooms, halls, corridors, and LRC.
There are 14 classrooms in this building at a size of 62m2 each. All rooms have four automatically-controlled facade windows for natural ventilation. These windows provide fresh replacement air to the building and are located at a high level in the room near the ceiling. Dampers controlled by our NV Advance® are present in the corridors, creating a stack ventilation effect which maximizes the efficiency of our system.
NV Advance® monitors the temperature, CO2, and humidity levels of all the ventilation zones. Based on standards for a comfortable and healthy environment, the system will automatically open or close the windows to reduce the CO2 levels and ensure a pleasant indoor temperature and air quality.
The control of the windows in the 20 zones is further dependent on the wind pressure of the building. Information about wind speed and direction comes from an external weather station which also monitors for rain and outdoor temperature. We also build our control algorithms from CFD calculations, which are done for each specific project where a WindowMaster control system is used.
The actuators in this project feature Motorlink® technology which ensures that the actuators function with precise position control and feedback, as well as with a quiet operation. However, manual override switches are available throughout the building so that occupants can control the windows in their zone. This helps ensure user satisfaction.
