2018 & 2019
In central Oslo, this impressive building dates back to 1913. Originally a textile factory, the structure is a unique space for creative work environments and hip restaurants.
RGN Property, in collaboration with Engineer Petter Nome AS and MAD Arkitekter, mastered the task of modernizing the building’s design, indoor climate strategy, and energy consumption, all while preserving the history and atmosphere.
Hybrid ventilation is the indoor climate strategy which, in this case, combines natural ventilation with a smaller mechanical ventilation system. The system ensures a fresh indoor climate that emphasizes healthy and productive occupants all while reducing energy consumption. This proves that modern ventilation is also ideal for historic buildings.
NV Advance®, the solution implemented by WindowMaster, regulates the automatic window operation, the heating controls, solar shades, and the smoke ventilation system. The system manages a total of 70 zones and controls the 150 actuators (WMX 504) that open and close the windows and facade. NV Advance® is also responsible for the automation of the building’s skylights with 27 additional window actuators (WMU 864).
WindowMaster BSI has also supplied KNX and Dali components for controlling light and sun protection throughout the building.
Amalie V. Kristoffersen, Managing Director at RGN Property says:
Factory Tøyen is a property and a workplace where we optimize the conditions for well-being, productivity, and creativity. It should be a place you want to stay in. Research shows great advantages with natural light and fresh air in the workplace. A system with natural ventilation, such as the one we chose from WindowMaster, allows us to be competitive and in the forefront of commercial real estate. It has also been a great way to make a 100-year-old building greener.
