The University of San Francisco (USF) needed a new science building to accommodate the growing number of students. The goal was to design a building that communicated with the existing science facility at Harney Plaza in an open way, exemplifying the inquisitive nature of the sciences and social spirit of the campus.
The high-performance building is in the heart of the USF main campus and features state-of-the-art laboratory facilities. A large portion of the façade is glass and features WindowMaster’s MotorLink technology to allow for automated natural ventilation in combination with the building’s radiant floor system. MotorLink's intelligence allows for position control and feedback of the windows. The result is a sustainably-designed building that reduces energy consumption while achieving a comfortable indoor environment that is open to the outdoors.
The 61,610 sq. ft.building had a budget of $43M and was designed following LEED Gold standards.
