In connection with the facade renovation of the Danish Herningvej School, automated natural ventilation has been established in a wide range of classrooms and hybrid ventilation in five classrooms. Natural ventilation has further been installed in the common areas.
Natural and hybrid ventilation has been established during several stages, and the school management has expressed great pleasure with these solutions.
All areas with natural ventilation consists of automatically controlled windows in the façade and roof thereby using the wind stack effect.
The hybrid ventilation solution is a highly space-saving solution as the entire ventilation is integrated into the facade. At the top of the façade, small decentralized ventilation units with heat recovery are installed, and under these are automatically controlled windows. By placing the windows high in the façade, draught is avoided.
The hybrid ventilation solution has a very low energy consumption, seeing as the energy efficient natural ventilation can be used most of the year with the mechanical ventilation units with heat recovery assisting during the winter.
The common area's energy consumption is also kept to a minimum, as a high air change rate can be achieved throughout the entire summer without mechanical ventilation. This compensates for the lack of heat recovery in the winter.
The amount of ventilation and the ventilation principles are based on local weather data as well as the desired levels of room temperature and CO2 level in the individual areas.
In each room, a panel is installed for manual override of the automation. This allows students and teachers to change the position of the window if more or less fresh air is desired. After 30 minutes, the system goes back to automatic operation.
